To be honest, when someone tells me, “these stencils look fantastic, but they are unusable or worthless because…”, my brain goes into overdrive. At that point, I cannot rest until I fix the problem and make the resources truly usable 🙂.
That said, I have been using these stencils for a long time. Originally, I created them for myself. However, I always knew they were not perfect. The main challenge was the sheer number of icons, which made fixing them a time‑consuming task.
Over time, more people started using the stencils and reporting issues. As a result, I decided to address all problems once and for all. Today, I am happy to announce that I have closed all open issues reported in the GitHub repository.
📝 One-Minute Brief
Announces the major release v7.0.0 of the Microsoft Integration and Azure Stencils Pack for Visio, delivering a full restructuring of stencil files, hundreds of updated icons, and long‑requested fixes for text annotations and connector points.
What’s new in this version?
These are the list of changes and additions present in this major release:
- Restructure of Visio Stencils files (.vssx) names: the package now contains 26 Visio Stencils files.
- Some of them were renamed: PowerApps and Flow are now Power Platform; Files is now Files and Message Types Stencils, …
- Some were merged: Power BI was merged into the new Power Platform Visio Stencil file; Azure Others was merged into the Azure Additional or Support Stencils; Office 365 is now Office, Office 365, and Dynamics 365…
- New Visio Stencils files: MIS Black and Cyan and MIS Azure Black and Gray;
- New Organisational Stencils file added by Jacob Mansfield.
- New shapes: New shapes were added to most Visio stencil files (.vssx). Probably the most affected were Azure Stencils and Office, Office 365, and Dynamics 365.
- Text annotations and connector points: The issues regarding text annotations (legend appears in the center of the icon instead of below) and connector points (lack of proper connect points) are now solved in all the Visio stencil files (.vssx). This was a massive work!
- Order of the icons: all icons appear in alphabetical order within the Visio Stencil file, except for the first few, which, in some cases, contain the main shape of the context, like in Microsoft Integration Stencils, where the first icon is the BizTalk Server Logo.
- Automation: add 3 PowerShell scripts to this package for you to:
- Standardize all SVG filenames available in all subfolders by:
- Not using spaces. Some software will not recognize file names with spaces, and file names with spaces must be enclosed in quotes when using the command line. Having spaces in URL’s are also not a good experience and should be avoided. For all these reasons, I decided to remove all spaces and replace it will ‘-‘ (dash).
- Names are in Camel case, where the first letter of each section of text is capitalized (of course respecting the line above), e.g., File-Name.svg.
- Having extension in lowercase, e.g., *.svg.
- List all the detected duplicate files.
- Automatically install (configure) all the Visio files (*.vssx), so that next time you open Visio, they will be available.
- And also the possibility to download the most recent version from GitHub and install it locally;
- Standardize all SVG filenames available in all subfolders by:
- Standardize shape sizes: standardize the shape sizes across all Visio Stencils files so they are more to less the same.
- Fixed some minor stencil layouts.
- SVG files: new SVG files added.
These changes were a massive job that stole all my free time apart from my work and family time, over the past three weeks! So I hope you appreciate it!

Ola Sandro!
And mi question in regards importing the icons into ppt?
Much appreciated!
Hi Jose,
If you copy them from Visio to PowerPoint they will work.
Otherwise, you can import the SVG files to PowerPoint, nevertheless, I don’t have all the icons saved as SVG, at least yet.
Hi Sandro, I have bee using you icon set now for a while and I love it. Thank you for your efforts in keeping this library up to date.
I can not locate one icon, the Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2. Can you help me?
Hi Sam, On the Azure Portal there isn’t any icon for Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 only Azure Data Lake Storage Gen1. Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 is a set of capabilities dedicated to big data analytics, built on Azure Blob storage so probably for now you should use Azure Blob storage
Amazing job Sandro, mega-impressed
Many thanks for all the sterling work you’ve done on these stencils
Cheers,
SteveC.
