Friday Fact: Logic App Designer just got smarter

In today’s Friday fact, we are going to once again speak on the new changes present in the Logic App Designer.

The Logic Apps team has rolled out a small but powerful update to the “Add an action” panel in the designer — and it’s all about boosting your productivity!

The new panel is now split into three sub-sections:

  • Favorites – Pin your most-used actions for faster access
  • AI Capabilities – Leverage AI-powered suggestions right where you build
  • Built-in Tools – Find standard actions without digging around

This simple redesign helps developers stay organized, reduce repetitive searching, and focus on what really matters: building efficient workflows.

Small change. Big impact. Better experience. Big productivity boost.

As developers, we live for small improvements that make a big difference, especially when it comes to repetitive tasks. And that’s precisely what Microsoft delivered with the latest update to the Logic App Designer.

What’s New?

When you click “Add an action” in your Logic App workflow, you’ll now see a redesigned experience split into three smart sub-panels:

  • Favorites: Your most frequently used actions now have a home. Pin your go-to connectors and actions — whether it’s an HTTP request, an Azure Function, or a Parse JSON step — and never scroll endlessly again.
    • Save time, reduce friction, and streamline your workflow.
  • AI Capabilities: Microsoft is bringing AI directly into the developer toolbox. This section includes AI-powered tools such as: Azure OpenAI actions (consumption and built-in)
    • This helps developers add intelligent capabilities directly into their Logic Apps — no extra service wiring required.
  • Built-in Tools: Still need access to standard Logic App actions, such as conditions, loops, variables, and connectors? No worries — they’re neatly organized here. Clean, intuitive, and faster to navigate.

Why It Matters

In the world of low-code/no-code automation, developer experience is everything. A few seconds saved per action adds up when building complex workflows.

These new panels:

  • Promote consistency (via Favorites)
  • Accelerate development with easy access
  • Introduce AI capabilities at your fingertips
  • Make the UX more intuitive and approachable, especially for newcomers

In short, it’s a small UI change with a significant impact on productivity.

Dev Tip

To use the Favorites panel effectively:

  1. Start pinning your top 5–10 commonly used actions.
  2. Group your most frequently used services.
  3. Take 2 minutes now, save 10 minutes every day.
