When planning a BizTalk Server installation or migration, the first question is always: “Is my Operating System supported?” Choosing an unsupported OS can lead to installation failures, unstable environments, and a lack of support from Microsoft. To help you plan your infrastructure, I have compiled a summary of supported Windows versions for every major release of BizTalk Server.

📝 One-Minute Brief

This post provides a comprehensive compatibility matrix for every version of Microsoft BizTalk Server (from 2000 to 2016) and their supported Windows Operating Systems. It is a critical reference for administrators planning installations, migrations, or upgrades, ensuring that the chosen OS—whether it’s Windows Server 2016 or legacy Windows XP—is officially supported by Microsoft.

The following table describes the operating systems that are supported when you use different versions of BizTalk Server:

  4. Hi Sandro
Do you know if it possible to do an inline OS upgrade from Windows Server 2012R2 to Windows Server 2016 datacenetre with BizTalk 2016 Enterprise installed?
    Thanks Simon

    1. BizTalk Server 2016 supports Windows Server 2016, so in terms of BizTalk, it is possible.

In terms of SO, direct migration from Windows Server 2012 R2 to Windows Server 2016 Datacenter is supported.
So, I don’t find any reason not to be possible.

      1. Thanks Sandro, i did it on a dev machine, post upgrade the BizTalk Admin MMC was broken, but after i did a BizTalk ‘Repair’ things seemed to be working as expected.
