We are just three days away from TUGA IT 2017 returning to Lisbon. This year, in addition to organizing the Enterprise Integration track, I will also present two sessions.

The first session focuses on PowerApps and Microsoft Flow within the SharePoint/Office 365 track, showing how power users can quickly build and automate business solutions. In addition, the second session dives into Azure Enterprise Integration, with a particular emphasis on Azure Logic Apps and modern integration patterns.

Here are the titles and abstracts of the sessions I will deliver at TUGA IT 2017

📝 One-Minute Brief

Two conference sessions at TUGA IT 2017 focused on PowerApps and Microsoft Flow for business users and Azure enterprise integration with Logic Apps, highlighting practical demos, real‑world scenarios, and modern integration patterns.

How can PowerApps and Microsoft Flow allow your power users to quickly build Enterprise Mobile Apps?

How PowerApps and Microsoft Flow can allow your power users to quickly build Enterprise Mobile Apps will occur on May 19th at the SharePoint/Office365 track between 9 AM to 10 AM.

Session Abstract

Every organization faces constant pressure to do more with less. Technology is often the key to working more effectively and efficiently. However, cost and complexity have long limited the value organizations can realize.

The growth of SaaS (software as a service) has lowered these barriers. Organizations no longer need to deploy servers or install complex software. Users can simply sign up and get started.

Microsoft Flow and Microsoft PowerApps help business users achieve more with less effort.

Not every business problem can be solved with off‑the‑shelf solutions. In the past, building custom solutions was often too costly and time‑consuming. This was especially true for projects that integrate multiple data sources or must run on several devices, from desktop to mobile.

As a result, many needs remain unsolved or only partially addressed. Teams often rely on spreadsheets, email chains, SharePoint, or manual processes to fill these gaps.

TUGA IT 2017: PowerApps

PowerApps and Microsoft Flow are designed to address these gaps directly. They empower the people who best understand their business needs to solve problems quickly. Users can build solutions without the time, complexity, or cost of traditional custom software development.

In this session, we explore two Microsoft offerings: PowerApps and Microsoft Flow. We start by answering a few key questions. What are they? What problems do they solve? How can you use them?

We then move from theory to practice. We build live demos from scratch and create an enterprise mobile application. The app connects easily to platforms such as Office 365, SharePoint Online, Dynamics CRM, on‑premises SQL, social networks, and more. Finally, we show how Microsoft Flow can automate common tasks and streamline everyday processes.

The Speaker Nightmare: Eval Forms, OCR, Logic Apps & Power BI

The Speaker Nightmare: Eval Forms, OCR, Logic Apps & Power BI will occur on May 20th at the Enterprise Integration track between 10:20 AM to 11:30 AM.

Session Abstract

Evaluation forms are something every speaker both loves and hates. This feeling is even stronger when results are processed in real time and shared publicly.

When the feedback is excellent, it feels extremely rewarding. At other times, the results can hurt. This is especially true for speakers who invest their time and share their knowledge openly, only to receive negative evaluations.

Sometimes the feedback is unfair. For example, attendees may complain that a 100‑level session is too basic, even though introductory sessions are meant to be exactly that. In other cases, the speaker may simply have a bad day. That happens to everyone.

TUGA IT 2017: SmartDocumentor

(This demo will be in real-time)

I speak from personal experience: over the last 6 years that I have been speaking at community events in Portugal and abroad, I have been evaluated in all ways: badly, reasonably, well, and excellent. Sometimes, I have seen in the same sessions that attendees with different profiles evaluate me both poorly and excellently. The key point for the speaker is:

  • All feedback is good, either negative or positive; he can learn to improve himself, if that’s the case, or that a specific topic is not good for a certain audience.
  • He only needs to give his best! We cannot please everyone, and the goal is to feel happy with yourself and your performance.

I love evaluation forms, and I love for them to be publicly available, even better if they are publicly available during the event. Because, at least, it will provide a good topic of conversation for people who do not know each other, and it will keep the conversation flowing (naturally). People normally are afraid or shy to start a conversation with unfamiliar people; this is a good ice breaker.

In this session, I will show and explain a real-life demo on how we can easily build a robust solution for process evaluation forms using OCR software and integrate it with Power BI to present the results in an interactive, beautiful way. But most important: How can you educate your enterprise Developers and IT pros users to easily extend capabilities for power users, who understand their business challenges the best, and allow them to use their familiar tools like OCR software (SmartDocumentor) to process Evaluation forms and quickly build and deliver Power BI solutions to build Interactive Data dashboards. And at the same time, integrate these tools, platforms, or systems quickly and robustly using Azure integration features, such as Logic Apps, API Apps, and Azure Functions. How to start from a simple solution and evolve it, enabling new functionalities.
